26 students were arrested Thursday at San Francisco State University for barricading themselves inside a building to protest budget cuts and tuition increases across the state’s public university system. They locked the up the building from the inside with chains and were in that building for 24 hours until the police broke in and took them into custody. They were charged with misdemeanors and released that day. This outrage all happen because all 23 California State University campuses increased their fees for students.
The social control here is the Institutions have the right to higher the prices of their tuition. With the economy being down and more people going back to school why not higher the prices. People are going to have to pay that money to learn. I can see why the students did this; school is already expensive as it is and why do you need to pay more?
Another control is the students taking over the buildings that they protested in caused the school to cancel class in those buildings, there was 3200 students who had class in one of the buildings that the protesters where in. Being finals week this all back tracked everything.
The protested demanded to include forgiveness to all student loans and to end wars on Afghanistan and Iraq.
