"Parolee With Bracelet On Shoots Two"

This article describes the occurrence when a man on parole, while
wearing his electronic ankle bracelet killed two men. The parolee shot
the first man in his house over a drug scandal then the parolee
proceeded to exit the house and shot the police officer waiting outside
in his car. The parolee ran away ditching two guns in the wooded area
where he was running.
This article is related to social control because it shows how
even the most strict formal types of control can fail to regulate
people. The parolee was wearing a bracelet, a reminder that his every
move is tracked but yet it was unable to prevent and deter him from
committing more crimes. Sometimes the most extreme forms of
surveillance and sanctions fail to affect the conduct of people and thus
prove themselves inadequate. The fear of knowing that your every step is
being recorded and your location pinpointed may not be enough to
regulate crime or to make the parolee internalize this severe control
being exerted over his life.
