This was taken from usatoday.com. Colorado’s State University Board of Governors voted 7-0 to require gun bans on campus. Guns are already banned at K-12 grade schools in Colorado. Previously the university has followed the state law allowing people to carry guns with a permit. Now they will not be allowed on campus. This means that Utah campuses are now the only ones in the country to allow concealed weapons on campus. Many of the gun-rights advocates disagree with this move because they believe this will make students vulnerable to an attack. Many proposals to repeal campus gun bans have been made since the Virginia Tech killings but none have been repealed.
This is an example of social control because they are controlling what can and can’t be brought onto campuses in order to keep their students safe. Guns are banned from almost all the schools in the United States to ensure the safety of their students. I don’t think that students should be taking guns to school in the first place. I don’t understand why they would need to take them to school or what they would use them for. Police officers at the universities is a different question. In case of an attack, such as the one at Virginia Tech, police officers with guns will be able to act faster to protect the people. There are definitely pros and cons to this move but I do believe it was a pro to ban guns from students at Colorado State University.
