Cyber Bullying and Social Control
CNN was sent a video tape of a girl who was punched in the face after addressing her dislike for a hip hop artist.
The video shows the girl walking on a sidewalk with some friends while in the meantime being followed by other kids taunting her. At the end of a two minute walk the girl was punched in the face.
The person who recorded the incident did not send in the tape until two months later and no one had notified authorities. When the tape was published on Youtube and sent to CNN, a reporter at CNN contacted the local police. The police investigated and pionted out the juvenile suspects.

This is an example of surveilance and how technology is use to help solve a crime. Even though the crime had happened two months ago and there were only a few witnesses, the video tape allowed us to indentify who was presnt who committed a crime and who was a victim.

Another element here is cyber bullying. This is another interesting aspect of social control as peer pressure is influenced through technology. By posting her thoughts online she became victim. This kind of social control will soon shape how people post thoughts on the internet and will become eventually a new security issue.
