Jack Straw says punish women 'in the community'

"Vulnerable female offenders should be punished in the community rather than being sent to prison, Justice Secretary Jack Straw has said." This article talks about the need to reform female offenders in the community rather than allowing those offenders to become part of the prison system. The justice also indicated that females prisoners are very different from male prisoners and should be treated accordingly. This article still stresses the need for females to be rehabilitated within their community rather than being sent to prison. This idea that social justice can be carried out through the community in which a person resides is interesting and also can be compared to the Innes text that talked about creating a form of rehabilitation for females in general. I believe that systems such as prisons and the welfare system seek to reform females because they are the the foundation of the family system and they are the first learning systems of children. So if a child learns to be a "better" person by avoiding the mistakes of the parent then the lesson is learned.
