How Google Will Infiltrate the Real-World: Mobile Coupons, Barcodes, and Visual Search
The rapid growth of the mobile web is a force that could be disruptive to Google, a company that built its search engine for a desktop-based world. On the handheld, all bets are off. Anyone with an innovative concept for improving mobile search could gain ground, possibly even overtaking Google as the top search provider for mobile devices. But don't worry - Google hasn't been ignoring this trend. The company has been busy prepping various initiatives designed to get people googling from their mobile phones. From scannable barcodes to an innovative visual search app that lets you perform searches by taking photos, Google is slowly revealing how they plan to dominate search in the real world too.

Google is and has always been the pioneer of the search engine industrty. Destroying ask jeeves and all the other sites almost immediatley, now they are in competition with much more complex applications that are available for all smartphones. I think this is a great idea but now by being able to search for things with pictures and other barcodes it is just furthur engraving our 'history'. Our likes and dislikes have become public record and most do not even think of it this way. Lets say you take a picture of the new 40" Samsung LED television and do a general search for the lowest price on the set. Well google can now record this picture and sell the information to Samsung and then you start receiving ads from Samsung about bluray players. This seems like agreat idea but this could easily start protruding into personal lives for more personally searched items.
