Storeowner: A little compassion changed would-be robber's life
http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/12/03/convenience.store.compassion/index.html

A man went into a convenience store with intentions to rob the clerk. The clerk was the store owner. The robber pleaded for forgiveness, saying that he had no food, job, or money, and he ad to do this. The owner felt sympathy for the man. HE gave the robber 40 dollars and some bread, if he promised to never rob someone again. He went to get him some milk but when he came back the man was gone. He refuses to press charges because if the man was a criminal before, he's not anymore. The clerk is glad he did what he did and holds no grudges toward the robber, who is still unknown. The robber sent a letter to the clerk along with 50 dollars thanking him for what he did. The clerk now hands out food for free after 9 p.m.

This story is unbelievable. The robber was crying as he pleaded for forgiveness to the clerk. It really shows he was desperate for what he needed. The clerk decided that it was better for him to try and stop this man from committing crimes, and not by sending him to jail. Sometimes the only way to stop a person from committing crimes is by showing them understanding, and jail does not always fix a problem.
