This article was pulled from the New York times. It addresses the issue of confidentiality and how there is no more privacy with all the new technological advances we have been having. This article points out that many extra marital affairs have been revealed because of text messaging. Many political and public figures have had their affairs revealed publicly because of their text messages. Some of the texts were actually made public for everyone to read as well. This article claims that with some cell phone companies their texts may be saved within the phone on the network for up to ten days there after.
Many attorneys are even being asked to take classes on how to use technology such as text messages e mail or web history as evidence in divorce cases.
This relates to social control because it makes us realize that any communication that we do that involves technology is going to leave a trail and it is bound to invade your privacy or end up in the hands of someone that you did not want to see it or did not expect to see it. Whenever you communicate using text rather then actual verbal communication it is becoming more apparent that we cannot show our true selves through that sort of communication, if we do not want our personal information to be used against us.
Just another example of some of the consequences of all of our new technological advances.
