"Lipstick Killer" Behind Bars Since 1946

The Lipstick Killer, William Heirens, has been in jail since 1946 serving three life sentences for the murders of three people. He turned 81 his November. Heirens shot a woman in the head and cut her throat, kidnapped a 6 year old and severed her head and limbs, and killed one other person. He is called the Lipstick Killer because during his first murder he wrote a message using the victim's lipstick. He wrote "for heavens sake catch me before I kill more I cannot control myself."
Today, there are many who are actually fighting to give this man his freedom. Their reasoning is that he has been elligble for parole for a few years now. Others, including me, are disgusted that people want to fight for his releasment. Heirens supposedly has rehabilitated, and does not dwell on the past. Those on his side are trying to have hime put in a nursing home until he dies.
In my opinion, this man made his choices and must live with the consequences, whether he has changed or is old or whatever his excuse may be. Getting old does not release you from your horrible choices. Since when is age a get out of jail free card? I do understand that he has gotten over what he did and is a changed man, but it is what he was sentenced to and what he deserves. Not because he is frightning and will going on killing sprees, but because that is what punishment does and that is why we have it: for justice.
