Movement Under Way in California to Ban Divorce (Sarah Winter Post #3)

This article was from The New York Times and brings up the issue to "protect the sanctity of traditional marriage." The man that is behind this movement is named John Marcotte who believes that since people had no problem outlawing gay marriage they should have no problem outlawing divorce as well. Though this seems far fetched of an idea he is reaching out for signatures to make it a part of next years ballet. He is looking for signatures throughout face book and other internet sites, and throughout rallies that he is holding. One of the funniest things about this campaign is the public service announcements that can be found on his website rescuemarriage.org and the t-shirts that display a bride and groom handcuffed together also can be found on rescuremarriage.org

This article is flooded with social control aspects. The soft control is the concept that he is going through many ways as possible to get these signatures. It also relates because he is trying to relate this subject to a non-related subject of gay marriage. In some ways I believe that he is trying to pass this to further decline the fight for gay marriage. Mostly, however it is showing us one man that isn't even involved in the control apparatus trying to control our civil freedoms. He is trying to control not only our bodies but our social relationships as well. If this did get passed most of our social freedoms would be up for grabs.
