Raul Aranda post 4

This article comes from CNN news concerning Adam Lambart. I really do not know much about the artist, but I am aware that at the American Music Awards he kissed his pianist, who was also a male. The scene was edited then for the west coast, but could not be for the east coast as it was live. That instance in itself was a from of control by the media in not allowing the scene of two men kissing to be seen. Even with this though the article talks about how ABC cancelled one of the artist’s performance after his actions due in part to not have their station gain a ‘bad’ image in the public’s eyes. The reason they gave for the cancellation? His style was not mean for a morning show. Even with this, ABC cancelled yet another performance that he was scheduled for with them due to the same reasoning. These cancellations go to show how the media has overt control over what they show the public. Two previously scheduled performances become cancelled because an artist’s actions do not go along with the image of the broadcaster seems fair enough, but the fact that it is because the artist is gay is discriminatory. ABC has every right to do this, but it is still interesting to see that they have no interest in helping publicize a gay artist. It is still obvious that some America is still not at all comfortable with gays despite the fact that it seems that we are more welcome to them. Although we are more open about the issue than before, these cancellations are obvious indications that we are not still comfortable with the issue, so it has to be monitored by the media, so as to not create a public outcry.
