Raul Aranda post 5

This article is from CNN news concerning a group who is attempting to ban divorce in California. In order for this to even appear on the ballot there must be a gathering of around 690,000 or so signatures, but the act has garnered a lot of attention. The man who first proposed the idea never thought that it would actually get this far after more than 20,000 people joined the face book group he started for the petition. The video that is associated with why people should not be able to get a divorce is a bit odd though using “if it was good enough for the Babylonia, then it is good enough for California”, and “if we just let everyone get divorced, then people will start divorcing their dogs.” These two comments seem more for humor than for an attempt to ban divorce. The video also states that it is a satirical attempt, but the fact that it is gaining such popularity has lead to the man who started it to actually give it an actual attempt. Although this seems to be more of a humorous effort than a serious one, the idea of banning divorce would be another step towards total social control on people’s lives. The fact this has some backing means people are not understanding the seriousness of what is going on although some might actual want the ban. Whether one wants the ban or is simply going along with something funny does not really seem to important, but the idea that if this gets on the ballot and actually passes, then people have for the most part just accidentally given up one of their freedoms. The control I see here is that although this seems to be a joke, some people are honestly pursuing this and are attempting to place yet another control on our lives. This sort of ban would create such an uproar that it would definitely create chaos, yet here we are toying with the idea.
